Right then, here's my list of possible sci-fi and fantasy film combinations that
could form the basis of a video evening. It grew a bit bigger than I intended
but hopefully there'll be somethere here that people like. I've tried to come up
with a mix of new blockbusters and old classics that some people will
undoubtedly not have seen. I'm sure that people will be able to add lots more
films to the categories I've come up with.
Indiana Jones films
Aliens films
Star Wars films
Terminator films. You could also add the classic Saturn 3 which is also a
Terminator type film.
Highlander films
Robocop films
Lawnmower Man films
Mad Max films
Back to the Future films
The Fly films
Planet of the Apes films
Crow films
Comedies e.g. DarkStar, Space Balls, Weird Science, Beetlejuice.
Vampire films. Done many times I know but there are a fair few Vampire films
around so I'm sure we could get together some good ones. These could include
2, classic Hammer Horror, Nosferatu, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Vampyr and loads
more.
Werewolf Films e.g. The Howling, Wolf, American Werewolf in...
Devil Films e.g. Devil's Advocate, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, Legend
Alien Invasion / Infiltration e.g. They Live, Invasion of the Body Snatchers,
The Invaders
Stop Motion type films e.g. Jason and the Argonauts, Sinbad etc.
Meteor films e.g. Deep Impact, Armageddon, erm
Comic Strip / Superhero films e.g. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Spawn, The
Shadow, etc.
Godzilla films
Normal bloke doffs suit / powered armour / plasma turret and saves Universe
films e.g. The Last Starfighter, Tron, Flash Gordon.
Nasty beasts films. We shouldn't be short of these. Some examples might be the
Tremors films and the Gremlins films. Also Breeders, Phase 4, ET, Critters and
Thingies (just kidding).
Arny Sci-Fi & Fantasy e.g. Running Man, Total Recall, Predator films, Red Sonja,
Conan films,
Dodgy remakes of old scifi and comics e.g. Lost in Space, Judge Dredd.
Dark Futuristic Society films e.g. Gattaca, Brazil, 1984, Dark City, 12 Monkeys,
Blade Runner.
Classic Sci-Fi e.g. Silent Running, Outland, Logan's Run, Dune, 2001, 2010,
Barbarella (oh come on...), The Black Hole, Close Encounters of the Third Kind
plus a million others.
Cyperpunkish / Computery (is that a word?). I think that might include Strange
Days (which I haven't seen), Johnny Mneumonic, The Net (maybe not).
General Recentish Sci-Fi films e.g. Fifth Element, Contact, Mercury Rising (just
out on DVD), Face Off, Demolition Man,
Princess Bride. It's that good it deserves it's own category. We could make it a
trilogy by showing it three times in a row.
That's all folks.
