Films

Hi,

I would like to see the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition (even though I
have the videos anyway!) They would be really cool on a big screen and with
loud sound like they were at the cinema.
I think the Indiana Jones idea is good too. I LOVE Indiana
Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You could show all three of them back to back.
Also, you could show episodes of Star Trek or the X-Files, you know the ones
on satellite that those with terrestrial TV haven't seen yet. Or perhaps a
Red Dwarf extravaganza.

Just one last note: Starship Troopers is COOL!!! I can't wait to see it
again tonight!!

We may go for the projection and DVD idea proposed by Richard, but this
would have to be lined up for the new year sometime, since our film

DS9: Sacrifice of Angels I'm getting a lot of requests for, so that will
be a before christmas showing, considering how bbc2 are finally getting
their arses in gear and showing "in purgatory's shadow/By infernos light".

armageddon should be out by the spring term, so we'll probably show that
in february march time, to let us all go out with a bang.

Before I continue... Is someone actually counting the votes for
Princess Bride? It really *IS* worth seeing, and you should really
*not* let yourselves be put off by the name.... anyway...
We've shown the entire star wars trilogy in each of it's guises
several times before. This would certainly not be a new idea, although
admittedly there's no harm in running a star wars extravaganza once a
year or so, particularly if we can do it bigger and better each time.
TV projector, DVD, and some whopping huge speakers, for example?
I can't quite decide whether this is supposed to be sci-fi, fantasy,
or just "something else that ought to fit into IFIS honest"... but
it's probably a LITTLE closer to IFIS's ideas than Titanic.
Another fine idea.

Most of these "show the whole trilogy" or "show a bundle of
programmes" would work best if they're run as special events,
weekend-ish things, rather than swallowing a perfectly good thursday
pub-night though.
It's not brilliant, but it's worth a giggle. I'm just hoping we've got
time for a brief meeting starting as late as 8pm, AND Starship
Troopers AND still have time for a drink at the Ascot afterwards. I
suspect I may be forced to skip Starship Troopers, actually.
It is indeed a damned fine film, as long as you can ignore hollywood's
habit of making "america rules the world" films. It's also DEFINITELY
sci-fi, which immediately scores points over Titanic and Indianna
Jones in my opinion.

back. Never, at any stage, did anyone say it was important to bring
them back.

AND? They'd still have saved the world, wouldn't they? Rather than
nearly blowing it? It's that old "8 lives are worth more than 8
billion" argument, is it?

Hindsight is an exact science.

Indiana Jones, is most definitely Fantasy. Well it has elements
at least. The hunt for Ancient Artifacts of Great Power, is
a major Fantasy staple. It's just based in the 1930's rather than
some mythic past. The Ark in the first one is straight out of
Von Daniken (or however you spell it). Temple of Doom has evil
voodoo magic (I need to see that again it's been ages). The
Last Crusade has an artifact that can cure anything, age included.

All cool stuff, and definitelly within the IFIS remit.

Damm right. The remastered version is f**king c**p.

I think that can be arranged. It would be worth holding off on this till the new
year however firstly because Star Wars fever is going to appear again as soon as
the new films are churned out (and therefore there's a good chance of getting a
lot of bums on seats) and secondly the DVDs of the trilogy won't be released
until then.
Hey - Nazis getting killed in various nasty ways, biblical artifacts, red lines
of plane journeys - what more could you ask for.
I agree. I'm not very around on a weekday and if we do run it at a weekend I can
lay my hands on a lot of kit including a projector (25 foor screen anyone?). I
don't really want to do that if it's just for an evening.
