1. In Caretaker, (the first episode) Janeway has the choice of destroying
the route back to the Alpha quadrant, or going home allowing the Kazon
to discover the Array, something that would happen automatically to
these societies, therefore Prime directive would say to leave the Array
there to be found.
Janeway's action - destroy the Array and strand the Voyager 70000 light
years from home breaking the Prime Directive in the process.
2. In Prime Factors, The Voyager crew find a planet with technology that
could get the ship at least halfway home.
Janeway's action - Declares that even asking these people for help would
break the prime directive and to bawl out everyone who actually tried to get
the ship home.
3. In an episode whose name I can't remember, Several weeks after
having stranded a traitor with the Kazon, Voyager intercepts a distress
call which is using year old Federation identification codes. Janeways
choice, Check out the ship's records for Federation ships that have
vanished in the previous year (this should take 10 seconds) or rush
in blindly.
Result - She rushes in blindly, the traitor's trap works perfectly and
the Kazon steal transporter technology. (I still have not worked out
why they didn't destroy voyager at the same time. No reason for the
normally ruthless species just wandering off again has been given.)
Chakotay then risks his life in a brilliant and daring plan and destroys
what the Kazon had taken without them being able to study it.
Janeway bawls him out too because he acted on his own.
4. In Deathwish, The crew find a member of the Q who wishes to
commit suicide. The rest of the Q continuum don't want him to do
this because no Q has died before, (this ignores what we've been
told in Next Gen about the Q having a death penalty for members
of the continuum who go native). Therefore the continuum sends
John deLancie Q to prevent the suicide. JdLQ agrees to hold a
tribunal on board Voyager to decide whether or not Deathwish Q
should be allowed to die. He argues that the death would completely
change Q society and thereby invokes the prime directive. He also
tells Janeway that if she finds in his favour that he will take Voyager
home and give Janeway Q powers.
Janeway's decision - Break the prime directive, and piss off the entire Q continuum,(indeed this decision starts a civil war among these omnipotent
beings which wipes out many star systems) and they don't get home.
5. While having a friendly chat with Q at a later date, she tells him she's
not looking for a quick fix like Q to get home.
She wants to take 70 years???!!
6. In Basics, The Voyager picks up a distress call from the traitorous
Cardassian who is working with the Kazon.
Mistake 1, Janeway decides to help her in full knowledge that it is
probably a trap.
On the way to rescue the traitor, they get constantly attacked by
ships determined to damage one particular section of the ship. Any
sensible captain with less hair than Marge Simpson would wonder
what damaging this bit of the ship will prevent the ship from doing.
Mistake 2. Janeway doesn't do this. She just finds out that they
can't self destruct after her amazing battle tactics when they arrive
in the trap have resulted in Voyager being completely overwhelmed.
This leads to the Kazon stealing the ship and instead of killing the
entire crew, abandoning them on a planet so the doctor can be great
and get the ship back for them.
7. In Futures End, Due to an accident with a time ship, Voyager has
reached Twentieth Century Earth. Starfleet is aware of no less than 5
different and simple to use methods of time travel. The original Enterprise
crew even managed to use the 'slingshot' method in a jury-rigged Klingon
bird of prey, while guessing at the figures required for the calculations
involved in plotting their course around the Sun. Once they have sorted
out the minor problems of having the solar system blowing up in the
thirtieth century because of the Voyager and her crew, Janeway is
free to use any of these techniques she cares to look up on the computer.
What Janeway does - Waits until another timeship appears to escort them
back to the correct century and back to the Delta Quadrant. They have
already demonstrated their ability to destroy the timeship twice. She
puts up no more resistance than asking the timeship captain if he
could leave them in Earth orbit while taking them forward. All she has
to do is fire one photon torpedo at the timeship and then slingshot
round the Sun. Does she? No that would be sensible so it would never
occur to her.
