Well, if you're complaining about scraping the bottom of the barrel with
The Lost World, how about making some alternative suggestions? I believe
there was talk going around in the pub the other week about holding a
cold war double feature - there was so much cool, paranoid science
fiction back then, you're hardly short of material.
For starters:
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (the cool 1970s version, not the pants
'90s remake)
The Thing - another great John Carpenter film.
The Invaders - maybe several episodes of the series or something.
Any other suggestions? There are loads of "your neighbour could be a
hideous bug-eyed monster in disguise" type films. Let your imagination
run riot. :-)
Later,
Steve :-)

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The"
The original was 1956.
The remake was 1978.
Neither was directed by John Carpenter.
The 90s remake was 1993's "Body Snatchers" (IE without the invasion)
The Invaders - maybe several episodes of the series or something.
There's 2 film and 2 TV series versions of that too...
Invaders, The (1912)
Invaders, The (1929)
"Invaders, The" (1967) TV series
"Invaders, The" (1995) (mini) TV series

The Thing - another great John Carpenter film.
That was a very good film. I liked the fact that the hero looked like
one of the Bee Gees... or are you referring to the older, b/w version of
the film? 'Cos I'd like to see the more modern (18-rated) film some
time.

I would like to see the Black Hole, I thought it was a good movie.
It's certainly A HELL OF A LOT better then the Lost World. If we can
show that c*** then we can certainly show the Black Hole!
James Hanley, can't think of a tag line.

It's not up to me, though - Luke just coldly dismisses it as "a kids'
movie". But surely, a kids' movie that everyone wants to see is better
than a disappointing film (even I was disappointed, and that's saying
something!) which we're showing just to poke the SU in the eye? Hmm,
Luke? IMOH? OTOH? GSOH? PB4UGO2BED?
I vote we show The Black Hole - that way, I could do the posters for it.
Do I hear a second on that? Sorry, a third after James Hanley?

Well, I quite like "Earth V's the Flying Saucers" (I even think I have a
copy of it somewhere at home), and pretty much all of the Fifties Sci-Fi
and schlock horror flicks are watchable if taken less than seriously. I
also wouldn't mind seeing (although unfortunately they probably wouldn't
be big crowd pullers) some of the movie adaptions (or more correctly
movie "complete re-writes") of some of Verne and Wells (Time Machine,
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea etc.). Plus, as I think I mentioned in an
earlier mail (some time ago), that I wouldn't mind seeing "Shock
Treatment", the follow up to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
