Committee Ideas
Hey Everyone!
Since we are approaching a new academic year, we have a couple of ideas that could both old and new committee would like to introduce. Our list of changes feature minor and major changes, so it would be great if you could have a read and give us some feedback on what you believe does, and doesnât work if you have the time.
This email covers the same information of one of our recent posts on Facebook, so for some, this will be repeat information with a couple of updates.
1. Society Name change â we are considering on whether to rename the society to "RHUL Sci-Fi Fantasy Societyâ. We believe that this would allow us to become more Identifiable. This does not mean we would remove IFIS from the society, as we would plan to have it be a subtitle of the society. This policy requires a vote, so we plan on releasing a poll in a short while. We will update everyone when the poll is ready so you all get a chance to vote on this issue!
2. New Logo â Keeping with the theme of re-branding of the society, we want a new logo that makes it clear on what we do. This might include having more Sci-Fi and Fantasy imagery as an example. For updating the logo, we want to open the design process to members and Alumni who want to give it a go!
The current idea the committee like is a shield or crest featuring tech/ icons/ weapons from different types of franchises. A tagline for the society might also go down well (otherwise we might just translate "Institute for Impure Scienceâ into Latin!!) Any new logo would still need to be easily recognisable/ readable from distance and having a monochrome version for easy printing would be a bonus.
3. New weekly newsletter â this would feature a mixture of picture and text articles regarding updates on what the society is planning in addition to content like trailer of the week or committee picks.
4. Society reps â We would like to introduce two reps to the society, a Sci-Fi and Fantasy rep. These can be either committee or regular members if anyone would be interested. This would make it easier for everyone to know on who to approach regarding suggestions for films regarding the genre.
5. More Socials - We plan on adding a second regular social (we were thinking of Thursday). The second social would allow us to run a variety of events, such as board games, panel games, trips and pub crawls.
6. The Library â we would like to get more publicity for the library system we currently have, so for future events, we can bring suggested books along to our film evenings if people are looking to read something new. Another way we want to promote the library is by holding open afternoons so members can come and browse the collection. Our overall goal is to get the library out there so old and new members can use it on a regular basis.
7. The IFIS Cinema Pass â This pass would allow you to join our upcoming cinema trips (that we plan on holding a lot more of for the next academic year!) whilst also saving some money. The films that the pass covers will be chosen by the committee. They are valid for the certified date and time of the trips. Pass price to be decided.
If you have any feedback on our plans or have any ideas that you would like to be put forward, please feel free to get in contact with us via email, the IFIS website or getting in contact with committee members via Facebook.
We wish everyone a good summer and we look forward to seeing you soon.
