Quoting previous Mail Discussion/Brief Items of Interest
Some points about Mailers and Mail encoding methods:
I've come across another good reason not to include bulk ammounts of repeated
text. It's become apparent that not all mail programs treat replying in the
same way.
Most(elm)indent the "replied to" text and proceed each line with a marker
character, usualy > This is a good method for interspersing your comments with
the original text. Lotus Notes(which is what I have) sticks the replied text
at the bottom of the mail message (You end up with complete records of what's
been said, working from the bottom upwards)
Now either due to this or the apparent variations in encoding methods
(PC,MAC,UNIX,SE & MIME) I've noticed that text does not always appear the same
on my machine when I write it as it does on your machine when it is recieved -
of special note is the pound sign, present in my character set but about 20 of
you can't recieve mails with Pound Signs in it - warning for those tempted to
use it - I think we can assume all currency is UK unless otherwise in
indicated. When nick emails me the "at" sign turns into a large E with an
apostrophe attached !!!
Anyway the point is: If anyone has noticed any weird things happening with
mail I've sent - similar to that described above - could you let me know - I
may be able to do something about it. Also if anyone has experience with
altering Lotus Notes set ups I'd like to here from you as well.
Brief Announcements
Maskerade (Terry P) is out in Paperback. This is the Phantom of the opera mick
take.
The Simpsons starts on BBC1 Friday 29th November at 7pm
Sky text are reporting Michael Dorn (Worf) is leaving DS9 - I'll see if I can
confirm this.
Any rumours Nick has been spreading about a new series of Blake's 7 are false.
B7 is availible from me if you want it.
