Con reports: Nine Worlds and LonCon 3
So for people who've been following me on social media will have noticed
that I've been a bit busy recently going to some SFF conventions. The first
of which is right on our very doorstep at one of the hotels at Heathrow
called Nine Worlds. Foolishly I forgot to make my report/review of it
public, but basically it's a bit different to your normal SFF con as it
calls itself a "geek fest", although I can't really put a finger on how it's
different. Mostly it aims to be more diverse and inclusive. It looks like
they're going to have it the same time every year (2nd weekend of August?)
in roughly the same place too, so it's worth checking it out if you're
planning on being in the area over the summer holidays.
The second one was LonCon 3 otherwise known as the World SFF convention.
Much like the World Series, it's mostly held in the US, but some how people
managed to convince them that it could be held in London. Something that
hasn't happened since the 60s, although it's been in other parts of the UK a
couple of times since. As a SFF fan I think it's possibly one of things you
should at least try once in your life, although I appreciate that getting to
one might be tricky unless it returns to London or the UK again.
Anyway, my post on it's public and you can read it here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/113967930815758736990/posts/2Pr6YHVXGny
