Ladies and Gents,
I'm aiming to be in Egham next Thursday night, trains, weather and body
willing. Would anyone car to join me for a wee drinkee in the Almamata?

Is this still happening at the Almamata or are we moving elsewhere to
escape rising water?

I'm wondering if I ought to postpone tbh. Is the town centre itself in danger?
It would need to be the Alma matter as I can't walk much further from the station.
One of the Eghamites will need to answer that - I'm hardly ever in Egham
proper these days but I do know my friends round Staines/Pooley Green are
suffering somewhat and most of the roads are closed.

I went out earlier and it was all OK. I didn't notice if the Almamata
was open or shut, but I did spot them posting on Facebook for a deal
on the 14th, so I'd imagine if they were having trouble they'd have
said something.
I'll be honest, I'm worried about getting back home again after IF I get
there
Plus I'm meant to be travelling back to Pig Hill Friday and it looks like
that journey might be fun....

Where would you be trying to get to? I'll be in my car so assuming it's not horrifically out of the way I can give you a lift if necessary.

My thought is that it should not be a problem but let's see how the next 36 hours pan out before dropping the option.

People at work right now are currently saying there is no access into/out
of Egham, but I can't see that confirmed anywhere on twitter. Plus I'm
supposed to be working, not on twitter, so can't check thoroughly.

They have not said anything on the radio but it is Berkshire, not Surrey. What are you doing? X

It depends on where from, I suppose. My commute takes me
through Egham by train and I see no notices of trains
being delayed cancelled on that route.

There are reported road closures in Egham but it's from where the police
station used to be down to Thorpe Lea Road and Pooley Green Road so it's
that side of Egham. The centre seems to still be open (or at least those
are the reports I'm seeing)

Yeah, that seems to be it so far. I saw a tweet from the 441 bus company
saying they couldn't get to Egham, but I think that just means both roads in
from the Staines end are closed rather than it's completely cut off.

A couple of the people I'd hoped to meet have emailed to say they're gonna
have trouble getting there tomorrow due to the road closures :-(
I suspect it might be a good idea to postpone this time and try again when
I'm next in town after the flood waters have receded somewhat, the weather's
better and the transport situation is a bit more predictable.
:-( :-( :-(

The water level on the Mede itself is 12 to 18 inches below Egham by-pass and is 12 to 18 inches higher than it was 24 hours ago.
Severe flood warnings are in effect and some evacuations have already been announced.
Personally I do not think Egham centre is in any risk, although Hummer Road is already experiencing flood water surges out of the drains.

Fingers crossed it stays that way then! I'll be coming straight from work
but given that my leaving time has been fluctuating by about an hour or so
for the last week (I'm either leaving dead on 4:30pm or somewhere nearer to
5:30pm) I have no idea what time I'll actually be arriving! Also will
depend on how long it takes to get from Hayes to Egham - I know it's been a
nightmare getting in and out of Staines but I don't know if it's having an
impact on the A30.
