I have only been aware of the cupboard saga for 5 years so some of your
older guys can say pfft if you want but it has really made my day to
finally see the new
library storage system achieve physical status.

We needed new cupboards at least 9 years ago. I'm sure that we'd been
promised them for a long time at that point..!

I'll believe it when they're in a room, when cupboard have doors and are
full of books, and when I can see that the cupboards are not locked in a
disused toilet in the basement with a sign on the door saying "beware of
the leopard".
That said: Huzzah! Good to see that the
library finally has a flat-packed
proto-home!

That last part might take some time - each of the cupboards should be able
to hold about 1000 books and we've only got just over 1600.
That's enough to make both of them mostly full :)

Actually we bought 2 new cupboards - 1 to replace the 1 that is currently
suffering from chronic lack of door syndrome (thank you SU!) and another
for...I guess future expansion. So assuming the remaining "original"
cupboard hasn't been damaged we should have 3.
I guess if we have any theoric money left over after buying one of the
cupboards, we should plow it all into more books to fill it up? :)
Indeed, I'll believe it when they're in a room with our books in. But this
is great news anyway. Room for future expansion is always good too.
Where is the room? Is this still the society stuff room opposite the RAG
office they were shoved in before?

Well as I've just said on the Facebook page, the (unassembled) cupboards
are currently sitting in the societies cupboard.
The su is doing a societies cupboard clear-out in the next couple of weeks.
We're gonna wait til after that, so that we have more space to work in (the
place is a tip), and then do an inventory, and assemble the new cupboards /
disassemble one of the old ones.
