Go West Young Man! (or whichever direction is most convenient)
Dear persons abiding on Earth (or nearest postal address in the Milky Way),
Here shall follow a number of things of importance:
*MOVIE NIGHT
As usual, we're in ALT2 from 7pm. The Movie is 'Westworld' featuring the Magnificent Yul Brynner, star of 'The Magnificent Seven', who takes up his cowboy gear from that role to play a killer entertainment android in a park where everything designed to keep the visitors safe has started going wrong...
The following week is going to be the start of our "Best(and possibly worst) of British" where we'll be looking at such TV programs as spaced-out comedy Red Dwarf, the witty and urbane "Avengers" of the 1960s, the glossy show of "the Infinite Worlds of HG Wells" and more!
Submit ideas for future movies on the website or our Facebook group!
*PICOCON 30
The convention will be taking place on Saturday the 16th & Sunday the 17th of February. Please email us or let us know on the FB group if you're interested in going so we have an idea of numbers. Costs are 10£ for 1 day or 12£ for both days (bargain I assure you!). We will most likely organise a meet up at Egham station and journey into London to Imperial College. Humourous activities of course day take place all day long and there are usually vendors of various things as well as LAN gaming (they provide the gear for that I am told)
The convention schedule will be as follows(subject to adjustment or change)
Saturday
1000 Doors Open
1030 Stephanie Swainston Talk (Author Talk)
1130 Peter F. Hamilton Talk (Author Talk)
1230 Lunch, Destruction Of Dodgy Merchandise (possibly with liquid Nitrogen) and first rounds of University
Challenge style quiz
1400 Guest of Honour Panel
1500 Write Fantastic Panel: "Post Humanity in SF"
1600 Silly Games
1700 Write Fantastic Panel: "Life after Death in SF"
1800 University Challenge style quiz final
Sunday
1000 Doors open
1030 Richard Morgan Talk (Author Talk)
1130 Kate Griffin Talk (Author Talk)
1230 Lunch
1330 Fans, Editors and Writers Panel
1430 Picocon of Years Gone by Panel
1530 Tall Technical Tales - amusing real life anecdotes from the lab
1630 Turkey Readings (where ghastly tales are read- or not- depending on who bids more for the privilege!)
1700 Harmless Fun (Definitely not a fish duel).
1730 Pub Quiz
We are incidentally, of course not, reigning Champions of the past 2 years in the Fish Duel (which does not take place).
*HOODIES
We're thinking of getting some hoodies, as well as some t-shirt-like alternatives, done for the society so that members, past and present, may present their uni and society credentials proudly (or stash it at the back of the wardrobe, never to see the light of day ever again if you prefer).
Polls will be going up soon to which how many of each type we may want to order and what sort of colour people may like to wear. Logos and quotes are always a great thing to have on such garments so get thinking of what you can envision us all wearing!
*LIBRARY
Due to SU staff in previous years having done something clever with the order for our new cupboard, the stocktaking and inventory of our current Library has been delayed. We are harassing the SU as much as possible and they are being generally awesome this year about many things so things will be sorted as soon as we have the new cupboard in out grasp. Updates will be available upon request :)
Well I think that covers all of our immediate concerns- if there is anything you'd like to ask us about please let us know!
See you at our events!
