Egham on TV

Sorry, this isn't sci fi related but presumably you all remember Egham.
There is currently a press conference being filmed outside the Barley mow
on The Green about an Australian rower who after losing his race yesterday
decided to leave his accommodation at RHUL and get drunk then smash up a
kebab shop. It should be going out on Sky Sports and ITV at some point.
Yes there are two paths you can go by but in the long run, there's still
time to change the road you're on

Did we use to use the Barley Mo at some point?
If so can anyone remember why we were chucked out?

We weren't chucked out per se. IIRC the owners told off Charlotte once
for beeing a bit bouncy one evening, at which point we all collectively
gave them the finger, changed venue, and never came back. Since this was
the "golden age of
IFIS" WRT active participating membership, that must
have put a noticeable dent in their weekly take.

Yeah, that was pretty much it. I think it had changed hands at some point, and the newer management objected to a crowd of "strange student types" hanging around in their "nice family pub". The fact that we spent quite a lot of money there every Thursday evening, and that we weren't a rowdy bunch didn't seem to occur to them as being important. After they had a go at Charlotte, we left the Barley Mow. I went and had a word with the nice man who ran the BeeHive at the time, and he was very happy to take our custom.

We did. The new owners decided that they wanted to be more of a family
pub than a student pub, which was not a sensible decision in Egham. They
therefore decided to get pissy with students for daring to sit with
their drinks. I believe it was the point where they were telling you to
stand up because people needed to sit to eat that the entire society
walked out, leaving the pub nearly empty.

Now you mention it a landlord being bolshy with me for trying to get a
seat does ring a bell.....

I remember it being the last week we were in the Mow. The Foreskin was
just TOO LOUD for us to bother with more than once

Nah...he didn't smash up the charcoal grill thankfully. He got drunk, ate a
kebab in there and then smashed up the front of Hugos and some engineering
company. Google "Josh Booth drunken rampage" for the full details :)
