Spirited Away, January 17th 2011, 7pm, Arts Building Lobby IMPORTANT NEW INFORMATION
Hi all,
Further to Mohamed's email, we have succeeded in procuring a location.
For those of you who don't know, the SU have a new booking system, which is no
longer first-come-first-served, and, on some weeks this term, although they
won't tell us until the friday before, haven't given us a room. This week is one
of said weeks.
We have, therefore, booked two hours in the viewing room in Founders Library.
There are people in there until 2030, so we've booked from then until 2230. We
will, therefore, congregate in Stumble from 1900. Feel free to turn up then, or
aim for 2025 outside founder's library. We could only book two hours, so we do
want to start fairly sharpish on reaching the viewing room - so no waiting for
late comers I'm afraid.
The other point about viewing in Founders is that we are not meant to eat or
drink in the room. I expect we may be able to get away with some sweets, IF ALL
RUBBISH IS TAKEN AWAY SUBTLY but crisps, sandwiches etc would be difficult to
hide, I think. Also, I am not comfortable with people bringing alcohol for the
library. You are quite welcome to drink before at stumble: as long as you don't
make an exhibition of yourself on entering the library, I think that will be
fine, and to go back there for more after the film. Please be careful with any
other drinks as well - if possible bring something which won't stain or fizz
everywhere (or make the room smell - this applies to food too). Sorry to be
fussy about this, but we are booked on my card, and I therefore will be held
responsible. We also don't want to make a bad impression in case we need to go
back another week. I know that food and drink would, most likely, not cause any
problems, but I would rather not have to worry about it.
So, that's the plan :)

Hello there little hominids!
We intend to show you, the fine punters of IFIS, a piece of spectacular Japanese
animation (or "anime", if you will) this Tuesday evening: Spirited Away. You may
remember our last foray in to the territory of the anime society, when we showed
the mind-bending Akira last year. This week's offering is no less insane, so
here with a brief synopsis of the film is Lamesoc, IFIS, and Anime Society's
very own Martin Siggers.
"From famed Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away is the tale of a
young girl named Chihiro, who is moving to a new town along with her parents.
However, along the way they're accidentally dragged into a bathhouse
between worlds, filled with magical beings, ancient gods and weird monsters. Now
Chihiro must use all of her wits to survive, help her parents and find her way
home.
P.S. There are no tentacles so shut up with that joke already."
Thanks Martin. Thartin.
We will meet in the Arts building lobby just before 7pm, before gently
mafipulating to our Room With A Screen. After that, we will go to the
pub. Plus ça change...
Furthermore, it would be good if you could think about whether you'd like to go
to Picocon at Imperial College with us on the 19th of February, so we can get an
idea of numbers. It will be absolutely free, as in other years, and is a great
day out.
See you tomorrow, (or on Thursday at the pub!)
