Uh-oh. Maybe this is why the microwave we saw in our house when the
previous tenants were there disappeared when we moved in (Tom and Luke
know about this)...

If you want an interesting and factual rant on just how
dangerous
microwave ovens are, then I suggest you ask Dr Adrian Johnson (Dean of
Science)
about why he will never have on in his house...

Does he have a portable phone? I've heard they cook one's brain in
one's head. (I've never used one - so what's my excuse?)

We have a microwave back home (ie. my house in Sussex). What sort of
effects can my grandparents be expected to suffer? (And I don't mean
setting the clock!)

I seem to remember someone on TV saying that when you use a mobile phone you should change ear every 30 seconds or so to avoid damaging your brain. My impression was that the guy was a complete pratt.

This is not very easily, and probably not enirely possible to do. The metal
shielding around the oven will stop the microwaves. Behind the window, there is
almost always a metal grille, which will reduce a lot of the effect of the
microwaves, but only sollid metal will neutralise them.

Mobile phone does exactly the same thing to you as sitting in front of a
microwave oven.

So far, the information the mobile phone industry is trying to cover up states
that ten minutes per day with a mobile phone right next to your head will cause
permanent damage to brain tissue. The damage done to proteins can range up to
70% from the microwave ratiation equivalent to a mobile phone. This is
generally dependant to the size of the user's head.

On other notes, long term usage (10 - 20 years) may eventually cause sterility
(note that mobile phones are often carried in pockets, or around the waist).

The lesser effects include chronic inability to sleep, being jumpy, etc, etc...
