Would you prefer to see Judge Dredd or Dune? Paul says he will lend them

Dredd, seen dune and read the books WAY too many times.

I've not seen Dredd yet (it's sitting in my growing pile of videos waiting
for me to get some free time) but I loved Dune so I don't care which one you
show - why not show both.

Couldn't we see Judge Dredd one week and Dune the next?
I have already see Dune several times, but it is a good movie. I
would prefer to see Judge Dredd, though, as I haven't seen it before.

Dredd, In which Sly Stallone takes off the helmet and shouts unintelligibly a lot and kills lots of people. Oh yes, and Judge Hershey is the love interest. BLASPHEMY!!
Dune - Frank Herbert said about this film, 'I wrote a book about a man pretending to be a god, They made a film about a god pretending to be a man.' Of the 2 I would vote for Dune simply because I haven't seen it and it has at least got decent actors.

Which reminds me - given the sudden re-issue of the Alien Trilogy, does anyone
know if it's still possible to get the Special Edition anywhere?

No she isn't.
Not from his point of view, anyway.

I would heartily recommend that all IFIS members read the 6 Dune books,
as they are some of the best SF ever written IMHO.

Hmm.
They start out good, and end up good, but they're utterly dire in the middle.
"God Emperor of Dune" describes with mind-numbing realism the progress of
several thousand years of utter tedium.

Damn shame he had the poor timing to die before finishing the series.
(But then again, it might just have saved us all some terrible disappointments.
Zelazny's second Amber series is a wonderful example of a glorious beginning,
and a tragic ending.)

For those who have seen neither film:

Judge Dredd - For the first 20mins the film is just like the
comics, then it slowly falls into a standard sci-fi action
thriller. However it does have a lot of the characters and
tech from the comics and has quite a few good bits.
Just don't expect it to live up to the comics...

Dune - This film is actually fairly close to the plot of the
book. however it does miss out an awful lot and if you
want to be able to follow the film I would recommend
reading the book first. Mind you I would heartily
recommend that all IFIS members read the 6 Dune books,
as they are some of the best SF ever written IMHO.
