the past...

Hi all,

One of the recent updates to the website is a list of all the past
committees back as far as 1986 (I think that's when the SU started). It's a
tad incomplete as my memory ain't that great and the RWAVs I have, don't
help much either.

So I was wondering if anyone else could help.

I suspect the chances of anyone being about to fill in 1986-1988 are slim,
but there's bound to be someone who remembers what year Faye became the
"Cunning Linguist" and various other bits like that.

Also if people are bored, the pictures section now has a tags feature, so
people can label who is grinning inanely at us in them :)

My RWAV back issues are in Swindon - Liz, Jonathan & I are staying in London
for the next few weeks - so I'll have a look when I get home. But I'm
reasonably sure I've got some of those earlier commitees written down in
some older mags I inherited from Daniel C.

As for Faye ...... Didn't she get elected VSO for 93/4 at which point we
proposed retitling it ? Then she never took up the post due to fleeing the
country for some course related reason ? She may then have got the job
back for 94/5 ? Or was Cunning Linguist a rename of the Gamesoc "make the
committee numbers up" post ?

we called it Cunning Linguist after she proclaimed she was one in the
CompSci lab after being tricked into by Simon. I think it might have been

the Euro Idiot for his tenure.

Didn't Diddy Helen (Smith?) get the title as well? That'd be somewhere
between 94-98

I was a regular in both IFIS & Gamesoc events from around 1987 - 1991.

My earliest recollection of the other members includes Tim Barnes (Biochem),
Adam Chattaway (Chem), "Shelley" (Chem), "Magus". I can contact Tim and ask
who he remembers.


I held the library in Penrose over the summer vacation of 1990, so I suppose
I was librarian pro tem.

92/3 I agree
93/4 - I had Sandie down as the Terminator, and Faye is listed as Euro Idiot
for Gamesoc to Cunning Linguist for IFIS. One issue has her listed as
"Missing, Presumed Fed" in the tradition of hitch-hikers editors.

Other than that .... we weren't very good at putting commitee lists on
soem stuff were we ?

Plus I'm fairly certain it's not the first time someone has tried to find
this stuff out either. I think I saw a thread in the list archives asking
the very same question. Except this time we've put the information on the
website so hopefully we won't have to ask it again :)

PS The mailing lists (or at least the archives) are 10 years old last
October... 10 years of all kinds of rubbish being discussed... o_O
