IFIS Christmas meal

Hi,

As I understand it, the IFIS Christmas meal is currently not going ahead.
It may happen sometime next term but who knows. As a last ditch attempt to
celebrate the oncoming yuletide season (and not just get blotto) would
anyone be interested in a Christmas meal at the Wheatsheaf "Big Steak" pub
in Old Windsor? If you haven't been there before, they're predominantly a
steak restaurant (as you might have guessed) although they serve other
stuff. They also have a Christmas menu. I'll post a menu as soon as I have
it.

Having just phoned them, the two dates that they have free are (both
Thursdays) the 12th and the 19th of December. I know a Thursday doesn't
suit everyone but at this late stage it's all they had.

So, opinions? It's not perfect but it is close by, will take a large party
and serves steaks (3 of the main criteria as I remember it). As I see it,
we won't suit everyone but if there wasn't going to be a meal anyway, let's
do what we can.

Obviously time is pressing so I'd like an idea of potential numbers ASAP.

NO-ONE LISTENS TO ME ANYMORE!!!

There is going to be a meal, but due to everyone being extremely annoying
and not helping in any necessary decisions, it will happen beginning of
next term, and will be a New Year meal. If, however, you all want to go
to the Big Steak place in Old Windsorinstead, and have to rush through the
meal, and not sit and chat afterwards then feel free and I won't organise
the one next term. I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!

Come on. Be reasonable. I for one certainly don't remember getting a message
asking was I free on X day to go to X restaurant. If I missed it, it certainly
wasn't discussed very much. As for being annoying, people *are* annoying. Each
one of those blobs is actually a person, with their own life and opinions. Much
as it would be nice to say "Oi - you're going to a meal on this date" it
doesn't happen like that. Getting around this and trying to please as many
people as possible is surely the art of organisation. From my initial tentative
enquiries, people actually seem very keen to have a meal - a far cry from these
decision wreckers...
I've missed something. Why should we have to rush through the meal? If we
started at 7.30pm we'd have 4 hours to eat and chat. I'm sure none of us could
stand each others company for longer than that (a joke)!
What's the problem? My original posting merely said that there won't be a
Christmas Meal (which there won't - New Year is in fact *after* Christmas) so
shall we do something. As far as I can tell you've had a shot at it but have
elected to wait. Fine. But don't gun down other people for trying to be
sociable. I for one would be very happy to come to a New Year's Meal but they
don't have to be mutually exclusive. New Years and Christmas are very
different. For one thing there won't be any student's here on December 31st. Or
do you mean a "January 16th New Year's Christmas Meal"? Christmas is at the end
of term, when students are likely to be winding down and wanting a last excuse
(before going home) to go out and be sociable. So why not?
I couldn't have guessed.

P.S Shall I put you down as a "maybe"?

I'm thinking of having an IFIS Christmas meal too.
I'm having it in February, and I'm not inviting any IFIS members to it.

Does this stop it qualifying?

I think Richard's idea sounds sensible. (Although I'm not going to actually
turn up for it or anything. Lack of membership has its privileges.)
