Why the director decided to make one of the most beautiful women in
the world invisible is beyond me!

Well she's not entirely invisible. Apart from one scene on the bridge,
whenever she's invisible she's still visible to us the viewers - although in
some kind of glassy/semi-transparent way. So you can still see her feminine
wiles.
I must admit, I can't think of any examples for where they do this for
invisible male characters. They tend to make them truely invisible (apart
from clothing etc).
I guess they're clearly pandering to the men in the audience? *grins*

This is the style used in the comic to show the Invisible Woman. Though I'm pushed
to think of a male character with invisibility powers that's portrayed the same
way...... Maybe The Vision sort of when he's intangible....
