Principle Sci Fi show on TV today

I've been ruminating on the journey we take with our favourite sci fi shows on TV and
how it isn't the same going back and watching them again.

That in turn got me thinking that there is always a "principle sci fi show" the one
people watch and follow and talk about. It's not the best title I can think of as
sometimes there are more than one and they overlap....

When I was growing up it was Doctor Who, and later at College & University it was
Star Trek: Next Generation (which we mainly watched off videos)

After that came Babylon 5, X-Files & Buffy - with a couple more ST Spin offs
competing.

But what would you say the sci fi show holding your attention at the moment is ?

Waiting for the next serieses of a lot of stuff, but in the meantime hyperdrive is a fun gap-filler, not as good as, but with a few echoes of Red Dwarf (one you missed off your list!)

Oh, and by the way, did you catch The Day Today with Rok TV as part of something like 'ultimate night in' with thermoman a couple of weeks back? Classic!

SG1, Atlantis and Battlestar are the big three for me, although Brannon
Braga's new (now cancelled) show Threshold hasn't been bad.

Not watched it myself, but I guess the big cult thing at the moment from
the states is Lost.

It's nice to see some homegrown stuff after what seems like an age.
Doctor Who (obviously) and Life on Mars are both cool, and I just caught
an episode of Sea of Souls yesterday (OK, ghosts rather than sci-fi)
which seems quite good.

Hyperdrive can die horribly with sharp things in it's head for all I
care. I watched the first, skimmed the second on Sky+ and deleted the
series link after that. It's almost as if Red Dwarf never happened -
the CGI is the only half decent thing in it. They seem to be trying too
hard to do a Star Trek piss take, and are failing miserably.

If you've got access to Sci-Fi Channel, and liked Quantum Leap then
check out the reruns of the Pretender too! I watched this years ago on
Sky and it's taken until now for me to finally catch up with the third
and fourth seasons.

I got fed up of Lost after about 10 episodes of weird stuff happening and
tantalising us with the possibility that maybe we would get some answers and
then it just being more weird rubbish. It was just disappearing up its own
ar*e and I gave up.

The BBC should remake it, but have old people in it instead. Then they
could call it "Lost of the Summer Wine".
