Old mutton chops is back in another movie. I'm no expert but I'm pretty certain this is following one/some of the plot lines from the comics?

Not to my knowledge. In fact this doesn't feel much like an x-men movie at all, perhaps the reason why they dropped x-men from the title.
Either this is just another cash-in movie or their trying to create an x-men expanded univerise.
