The latest instalment of the X-Men saga is set in the future where mankind is waging war on the mutants. But this is a war neither side can win and so in a last ditch attempt to save everyone, the X-Men send Wolverine's consciousness back in time to his past self in the hope that he can somehow find a way to prevent the war from happening and thus save human and mutant-kind alike.
