Here's a point. The machines had previously been dependant on Solar energy
as a power source, and the humans blocked off this source of energy.

Now that the majority of humans are plugged into the Matrix, what is
stopping the machines from placing solar-panels above the cloud layer, where
they can still reach the sun? If they can get enough energy from the Sun's
rays, then why would they still need the humans?

We know that the technology has progressed to the point whereby hovering is
no longer a problem, so one would presume that launching things into orbit
wouldn't be too much of a problem either.

comments anyone?

Indeed you have a good point, also looking at the turbulence in the skies
outside they could also get lots of energy from wind power, and bloody great
lightning conductors. Also extrapolating from the activity of the sky, the
seas would probably be a bit choppy, so wave power would also be an option.
It would appear that by plugging humans into the Matrix, the worlds energy
sources become a lot more 'environmentally friendly'.

What if a shadow vessel was in the same battle?

The death star. It can engage at interstellar ranges. The Borg
like all startrek combatants has to fly to within a few kilometers
of it's target.

All matter distorts space, the only true practical measurement
of a pure and untainted PI would be in deep space parsecs
away from anything (of your lucky).

yes. The force would probably be used somewhere along those lines.

RE : Death Star vs Borg - Depends if the borg start sending assimilation
parties
over to the death star and how successful they are. Imagine that, a
borgified Death Star. Still
they would have the perfect asthmatic leader for it :o)

Tie Fighters have the unfortunate weakness of not having any shields, so the
borg/shadow beam weapons would cut
through them waves of them with relative ease. Also the Death Star has the
well-known exhaust port vulnerability, so that would be quite an easy
shot for the enemy ships.

I think comparing a shadow crab to the death star would be a bit of an
unfair match.
Wouldn't a Star Destroyer vs a Shadow Crab be more suitable?
And the death star vs the Vorlon/Shadow planet killer, since crapping on
planets is what they specialise in?

As I remembere from the last time I heard this done in the pub - possibly in
Nigel's company - was that we decided the first cube was mincemeat, the 2nd
had a 50/50 survival rate and from then on the borg would wee all over the
Death Star.

This all depends on, indeed, the Death Star's first shot, the Borg's ability
to adapt and the Death Star's armour vs the Borg cutting beam.

What about Battlestar Galactica?

The defences of a Battlestar are already questionable - an attack force of
Cylon Raiders whiped almost the entire fleet out. I don't believe the
Cylons even bothered deploying Base Ships - they were sent to attack the 12
colonies.

DS, Borg or Shadows to win every time.

In fact I'd reckon that a Battlestar class vessel is probably one of the
weakest capitol ships ever seen. Did we ever see it use a weapon other than
those anti fighter guns ? I'd reckon that a one on one a Victory class Star
Destroyer could probably take on a BS and win. The BS only saving grace is
that it's an excellent Fighter retrieval and launch system. In combat
however
it could use some heavier armament.

In one ep a Cylon raider does ram the back of one of the launch bays
imobilising it's ability to retrive Vipers...

It's not obvious until after repeated viewings but I think the Vipers are
deployed via the struts connecting the landing bays to the main section of
the ship. You always see the fighters heading away from the ships
sideways.

nearly a year since we prooved a Star Destroyer would kak all over the
Enterprise...

wouldn't be too bad either for virtually the same reasons that would make
him a good Doctor Who.

Yes, when we bumped into Captain Invincible (I forget his name), the
only human captain the Cylons feared. At the end of the episode
he launches his entire complement of missiles (6 IIRC) at 2
base stations which completely wipes them out.

I don't remember them every being used again. But then I never
really followed it closely.

It wouldn't really be a fair fight. The BS people weren't really
into building warships and thus don't really have a clue as to what
they need. They also only had the resources of a dozen odd planets
to work from. The Empire on the other hand is rather experienced at
kicking butt. They have a few hundred planets or more resources
to pull from and the experiences of 100's of different races.

Surely by far the best fighter launch system must
belong to the Shadows. They just fire off one of
the ships spines and launch it in the general
direction
of the enemy fleet where it divides into a swarm of

I assume the the fighters are recovered by
re-forming the spine or just merging back into the
battle-crab. Either that or they just ditch them and
grow some more in the greenhouse.
