THIS WEEK'S FILM: Shrek

This Thursday IFIS are showing Shrek, a fantasy-comedy set in the land of
fairy-tales, starring a big green chap and his donkey. The entire film is
computer-rendered in 3D and looks quite stunning. That's this Thursday, 1st
November, in Founders Main Lecture Theatre, at 7:00pm.

And straight after that, as usual, is the IFIS social, which once again
takes place in the Beehive. All members are welcome to come along. In case
anyone still doesn't know how to get to the Beehive, follow the group that
does; if anyone's late and missed my brilliant direction-giving last week, I
quote from someone who isn't as ignorant as me (-:

Actually that isn't strictly true. The IFIS social starts before the film
and continues on throughout the evening until they kick us out of the pub.
It's only recently that we've had the film clash with the social - they used
to be shown on at the weekend.

So if people don't want to see Shrek again or they can't make the start of
the film, then they should head on over to the Beehive and start the
socialising early. This is especially a good idea if you're fed up of
eating food in halls, as the pub does really nice food.

I did know that, or at least had it in mind - but I've been trying
to aim these announces more at the freshers so far, and I thought most were
only interested in the film. I mean, should I announce 'IFIS Social' and
then add a little below that we're showing a film as well?

That said, given the fresher turnout last week I wonder if it's
worth trying to encourage them to the pub for much longer.

You have to tell them there is a pub meeting on Thursday. You have to keep
telling them. Every week. For most of the year. You'll find that if they
hear about it enough they'll start to drift along. That's how I got
involved.

Of course kidnapping could also work :-)

Somebody gets up before the film and says "We're off to the BM/BH afterwards do come along
...."

Of course kidnapping could also work :-)

Kidnapping them is illegal. Someone would almost certainly complain. Possibly even the
person being kidnapped, or maybe their friend who has just watched their only friend in
the entirety of Royal Holloway being dragged away kicking and screaming by a bunch of
nutters. Of course now lonely fresher could pluck up the courage, follow us out into the
real world, and while confronting us over kidnapping their friend be converted to the
cause and then have lots of nice new friends. Or Chicken out, lock themselves in their
room in fear and bell The Filth. We'd then get the society lots of publicity - possibly
even on national TV when we're up before the beak - and gain lots of new members that way.
Either way it's a win win scenario. Who's bringing the chloroform and who's got the rope
for tomorrow night then ?

we actually nicked anything ....

No I don't think Steve Dismukes has ever nicked a giant beach ball......

Though Steve as a Number 2...... Might work.... though technically if anyone who's a vice
something or other is a #2 to someone. hmmm - looks briefly at Harry Potter film list
and wonders.....

Anyone remember Piers? Shares worth a fortune, last I heard. Still
doesn't come back to IFIS meetings like he said he would, even though he
ought to be able to afford to visit us in a porche, or a helicopter or
something :-)

Anyway, we kidnapped him, carried him 1 person on each limb along to an
IFIS meeting, and after that he came of his own accord almost every week
:-)

Damn, I should have bought some shares in Piers ;-)

We should have moved the IFIS meetings to the Comp Sci
lab, then Piers would have got a 100% attendance
record. :-)
