B5 "Life goes on"

Crusade's just finished on Sky. No more B5 on TV for the foreseeable
future :-( Just the books to come ...
(And if you've not read the telepath books get them !)

For my money the later eps - the non TNT interfered with ones - are the
best - Memory of War, Visitors from Down the Street (A superb X-Files
micktake) and Each Night I Dream Of Home stand out.

Enjoyed it while it lasted - shame there couldn't be any more.

Anyone wants to borrow I've got the lot on video.

So Crusade is finished, saw most of them and they were crap - the last
two were terrible (one was just a piss take of
X-files, not even a clever one). Overall the characters were
dislikeable, badly written and shallow. There was no
plot - the virus appeared in only a few of the episodes.

I can see why JMS walked out...

Come on Philip, there was no plot - things just happened; this is just
why we always said B5 was better that
ST:NG/ST:DS9. The characters had no depth and were unbelievable; they
did things at ramdon, completely
ignoring the virus. None of the characters were likable, they were all
stereotyped and very arrogance.
I could go on...

So you must think it had a plot which was a factor in the episodes and
the characters showed lots of
depth and acting consistancy - I didn't see any of this; and they didn't
need to resolt to cheap piss
takes.

As we were begining to see the majority of their actions were directed by
Gideon's reliance on the Apocalypse Box for guidance.

Most of the B5 characters are stereotypical to start with - go watch the
Gathering again - it's only as time goes on they start to flesh out a
bit....

Plot

Apart from curing the virus - which is the main theme driving the show like
B5 is a space station we have:

1) The conflict with the Drakh
2) What destroyed the Cerberus ?
3) Why didn't it destroy the technomage fleet ?
4) Why are the TM's still hiding and what are they hiding ?
5) How did the Psi Corp end up disbanded and where is Mr Bester hiding (he's
alive)
6) The Lochley/Gideon romance
7) What's Earth done with it Shadow Tech ?
8) IPX
9) Galen & Dureena ....
10) The development of Teeps in the military.
11) The conection between the TM virus and the Drakh virus.

By ep13 of B5 we'd only just seen the Shadows for the first time !
I thoguht it was interesting to show the X-Files thing the other way round
where it's us doing the abducting. And it was a good fun ep....

Galen was good fun - totally stole the show whenever he popped up.

Eilerson had potential, Gideon was hinted at - how did he make ensign to
Captain so quickly ? ...
Dureena I wasn't sure about, Kim and Chambers needed more airtime.

I think it was a great disapointment that the show got killed too early to
express some of the potential I could see there ....

Well, that's what happens when you run you're ship like that, and everyone
plays network diablo instead of flying the ship....

whoops, you didn't mean the network protocol, did you? :o)

You may assume that IPX is a ref to InterPlanetary eXpiditions and not some
computer jargon yes....

OK this is a matter of taste - but by ep13 the characters where still
mostly
cardboard cut outs - who belonged on a star trek bridge.
None of this appear in any of the episodes, because you can see a plot
line,
doesn't mean it was used. I could list thosands of others, but they did
not exist - for instance shadow-tech, yeah they had it, but there was
no reference to it; it was not use as a plot device and played no part.

The X-files plot was obvious in the first 3 minutes and was very weak;
so
with only 4 years to save Earth once again the ship takes a day off to
go and do something meaningless.

Galen annayed me ever since the pilot. Instead of just saying - look you
got to stop the Drak planet killer, he pisses around with visions and
the like. With over 5 billion lives at steak that seems like a good
idea! and he continues to do this afterwards. The same with the
Apocalypse Box - why be so secretly with a planet at steak.
Didn't matter, we mean too busy looking at the Centauri/Narn war,
Sheridan "hole in his mind", the grey council and the like, and
the many like bit of info that where leaked.
I agree, but surely 13 episodes where enough to do somthing, by the
middle of
series 1 of B5, the characters where filled out and many of their
relationships
had formed.

We seen to agree on one thing - it could have been so much better!

Personally I thought the entire first series of B5
was a waste of airspace until the later series started
adding perspective.
Not having Sky and not having seen crusade I wouldn't
bet on it, but the same phenomenon could easily apply.
