Dunno. Videoed it, but haven't seen it. This is the one that's going to last
more than one series though. I'll get around to it.

What do I think of "Dark Skies" and "Space Above and Beyond"?
Well in a word "RUBBISH!". How many cliches can you fit in one hour.
"Space Above and Beyond" took the normal USA centric view of the
universe to new extremes - with characters so steoretyped that I
found it impossible to take it seriously. For example, we find the
plans for an alien attack, but it a trap. No kidding, these plans
where put on a scout ship (why), which crashed and the sole survivor
didn't press the delete key! The big briefing meeting called on earth
and the comment "it's too easy" was made. Nah! you don't say and only the
hero could spot it.

"Dark Skies" is much the same...

"Red Dwarf" was OK, better FX, but another time travelling story line -
it's wearing a bit thin.

Ah, you're being a bit harsh.
I certainly wouldn't actually go out of my way to recommend it to anyone, but
"RUBBISH"?

It's a kind of latter-day Battlestar Galactica. OK for something to watch while
eating, but you wouldn't want to buy the video. USocentric? I suppose so.
But then isn't Red Dwarf shit for being UKocentric? Sure, we had the Kennedy
Assasination this week, but basically it's one long train of
lager/curry/Hammond organ/public school jokes. I mean ALL of the characters are
English! On a space ship? No Americans at all? Shocking.

So when's this Blakes7 sequel comming out? Quality Television. On a stick.

Well I missed the beginning of this weeks episode, but I was actually
suprised that it didn't turn into the sad rip off of the fugitive I
was expecting. Some interesting twists. My only problem is I keep
expecting Mulder to turn up a scream "it's a fake it's a fake!!"
Not bad, certainly a lot better than the last series (combined). Some
funny moments (though not as many as in say series 5) and some interesting
ideas in the story. The twist at the end was certainly amusing.
If its the one where the aliens attack it's apparently quite good, far
better than the earlier series. Of course whether it's ever going to
be more than knight rider in a sub is debateable.
Well, the ships are cute... The plot / storylines would appear to leave
a lot to be desired. Why do the americans seem to be incapable of grasping
the most basic concepts of warfare? However, in my mind the is worth it's
weight in gold for the amusement value of the Angry Angels. (All together
now, YMcA I wanna hear ya sing it, YMCA....)

Cleaner than the last series, the budget is bigger, but the FX are still

Wasn't sure of the 'bottom' style bit at the end. Very funny, but

Well for a start it's good that more Sci-Fi is being made, and some quality
stuff as well.
Pilot was OK, seemed to be X-files meets The Invaders. Has some potential but
last nights episode was a bit too long at an hour, seemed a bit drawn out.
Seems much better than the last couple of seasons but with Rimmer being replaced
by Kancheski (sp?) we will have to wait and see. The Kennedy assassination was
great, much better than Dark Skies theory :)
Repeat after me "SeaQuest DSV is shit on a stick", always has been, always will
be.
Top Gun in space with all the worst bits of Independence Day thrown in for bad
measure.
Ships look very nice, except they don't seem to have bothered changing the
design of
aircraft carriers for space flight :)
Pilot was fun, 1st episode average , but the characters are so politically
correct
and stereotyped that they seem completely unrealistic. The plots so far have
been
very predictable, not a trace of originality. You can see already why it was
cancelled
at the end of the 1st season.

Yup, the colony ship was part of an elaborate ploy to persuade the
aliens to attack the puny earth forces. In true western style they
then brought out the heavy guns and stomped them out of existance.

Or then again it might be that the colony ship was a private enterprise,
whereas the war fleet was a military force. As usual the military have
far more money to play with than non-essential things like colonisation,
welfare etc.

Certainly a new style, since the gestalt entity "Grant Naylor" became a
thing of the past. It looks at if the two individuals involved are now
being actively hostile towards each other, since both have released
novels claiming to be the follow-on to the novel "Better Than Life".

Still the same sort of level of humour as series 6, although not quite as
repetitive. Hopefully we can expect some better stuff to come. I did like
the new style of direction. It looks far more professional and far less
cheesy-sitcommy, but perhaps that's not really the point. Red Dwarf is
not the sort of programme that ever took itself too seriously.

Is it just me, or is the look of the new series of 'Red Dwarf' different
previous series? (it could be that they're shooting it on film instead
of video, I suppose, but I'm not too clued up about these things.)
BTW, I thought the pilot of 'Dark Skies' was one of the worst things
I've ever seen on TV. It wasn't remotely plausible (ok, so ' The
X-Files' suffers from the same problem some of the time, but at least it
manages to be entertaining) and the dialogue was daytime soap-opera
level. I'm making a special effort to be out on Mondays from now on.
